Special Programs
Fulbright-Fogarty Fellowships in Public Health
The Fulbright-Fogarty Fellowships are offered through a partnership between the Fulbright Program and the Fogarty International Center of the U.S. National Institutes of Health. These awards were established to promote the expansion of research in public health and clinical research in resource-limited settings.
The Fogarty International Center, NIH, will provide support to the research training site and may provide orientation for the fellows at the NIH. In addition, NIH will provide a pre-departure orientation for selected Fellows in Washington, DC.
To participate in the Fulbright-Fogarty Fellowships in Public Health, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen and:
- By start of the program year, fellows must be an MD (and other professional degree) student who has completed their 3rd year of a Ph.D. candidate that has completed their master’s level requirements (i.e., post-qualifying exam).
Other basic requirements and process for applying for the Fulbright-Fogarty Program are the same as for any Fulbright U.S. Student Study/Research Grant.
Fulbright-National Geographic Award Program
The Fulbright-National Geographic Award Program seeks proposals that undertake an in-depth examination of globally relevant issues as an add-on to the Fulbright Open Study/Research project. Funded projects will incorporate science, storytelling, and/or education, and must align with one or more of the Society’s six focus areas: Ocean, Land, Wildlife, Human Histories and Cultures, Space, or Planetary Health. This award is made possible through a partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the National Geographic Society.
Successful Fulbright-National Geographic applicants, in addition to receiving standard Fulbright U.S. Student Study/Research benefits and additional grant funds, will join the National Geographic Society’s global community of Explorers and gain access to resources and opportunities such as trainings, regional Explorer events, speaking engagements, and dedicated mentor and staff support. The National Geographic Society expects to select up to five applicants for this award.
